Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT)

As a Doctor of Osteopathy, Dr. Diane Aslanis utilizes osteopathic manipulative treatment to help diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses. This type of treatment involves hands-on techniques to manipulate the patient’s joints or muscles and make subtle alignment changes that can enhance the body’s own natural healing power. Through a series of gentle stretches, light pressure and resistance, your doctor can help alleviate joint restrictions, muscle tightness and begin to realign your body so that you can feel better and enjoy greater mobility and function.

How can Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) help you?

DOs receive special training in the musculoskeletal system as well as how the nerves, muscles and bones work together. A Doctor of Osteopathy truly understands the way the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one can affect another. Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) can complement your current treatment and even replace the need for drugs or surgery. OMT can address issues such as:

  • Back pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Migraines
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle and ligament/tendon sprain or strain
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia

By incorporating Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) into the care and treatment of her patients, Dr. Aslanis can:

  • Increase range of motion in joints
  • Treat structural abnormalities
  • Promote blood flow throughout the body
  • Help patients gain mobility and function

Managing patient care through an integrative health approach offers additional treatment modalities and provides patients with a whole body perspective on wellness. As a physician, Dr. Aslanis’s goal is to provide high-quality health care for each of her patients based on their unique needs and, if needed, incorporate alternative medicine options as additional healing tools to bring men and women to their optimal health.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds each muscle in the body. If you have been injured, suffered a sprain or strain or had surgery, the fascia can thicken and restrict the range of motion of a muscle. It can also tighten down on the muscles, restrict blood flow and cause significant pain.

Myofascial Release

Dr. Diane Aslanis offers myofascial release, also known as deep tissue work to treat patients with myofascial pain syndrome. Some patients with myofascial pain syndrome suffer from a chronic pain disorder caused by tightness and sensitivity in the myofascial tissues surrounding the muscles and throughout the body. The tightness is often referred to as a trigger point and can radiate pain to other adjacent areas.

The Benefits of Myofascial Release

There are numerous benefits of myofascial release including:

  • Reducing pain
  • Improve skeletal alignment
  • Increase ease of motion
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Achieve greater range of motion and flexibility

Myofascial release, a form of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) uses firm pressure applied to a trigger point area or tight muscle to help it “release” and begin functioning in an unrestricted capacity.

Myofascial release aims to gently massage and stretch the areas in your muscles that feel tight or “knotted.” It can offer relief to patients suffering with chronic headaches or chronic pain in a specific muscle group. Myofascial release may need to be repeated a few times to get the optimal gains from this unique form of Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT).

Craniosacral Therapy

Another non-invasive alternative treatment used to enhance the body’s natural healing capabilities is called craniosacral therapy. This therapy utilizes a light touch on both the skull and sacrum to balance the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. It can be used in conjunction with other forms of therapy to help balance the body and ease pain. Craniosacral therapy can be used to relieve compression in the head, neck and back and release restrictions on the nerves within those areas. It may be a beneficial treatment for patients suffering with tension headaches, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia, neck pain and/or insomnia.

Most people experience a sense of deep relaxation during craniosacral therapy. Craniosacral therapy is noted to enhance the body’s natural ability to self-regulate and heal.

Dr. Aslanis is pleased to offer patients an integrative medical approach to address a wide range of health concerns. Her experience as an osteopathic doctor enables her to pull from a variety of effective treatment regimens to offer patients a personalized care plan designed to target overall health and not just a symptom.
